summer pools

--- an arts and spatial practice summer school programme in collaboration with Sara Yaoska.

summer pools was born out of conversations about a need and yearning to think through alternative models of collective practice and support. We envision summer pools as a space that brings people together, gives oxygen and thinks through ways of making that are supportive. We are keen to gather people to get to know each other, think together, play, make things, and share knowledges and skills.

Each year, we borrow a word relating to the particular landscape and territory of the programme, which frames the activities within the week. Last year was the first iteration of summer pools and we borrowed from the Gaelic word of TAGHRAIM meaning a ‘noise; echo; type of divination by listening to the noise of waterfalls’. Eight of us travelled from Italy, Spain, Germany, and the UK to Lower Campsie in Perthshire. We explored noises, silences, voicing and listening next to the currents of the River Tay through different formats in a week of workshops, walks and conversations.
